HydraFacial

HydraFacial

Cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and intensive hydration are combined in one treatment to support skin quality, freshness and a more even complexion.

Skin can appear increasingly uneven or dull due to sebum, dead skin cells, environmental influences, and moisture loss. A HydraFacial combines several treatment steps within one session, pairing controlled skin cleansing with exfoliation, extraction, and subsequent hydration with selected care ingredients. The treatment is particularly suited to patients who wish for well-cared-for, fresher-looking skin without needing to plan for a longer recovery time. At Clinic Selnau in Zürich, HydraFacial is planned according to the current skin condition and individual skin needs.

Our Approach

A HydraFacial is more than a standardised facial cleanse.

What matters is what the skin needs at the time of treatment. For some patients, sebum and blemishes are the main concern. For others, it is dryness, a dull complexion, or an irregular superficial skin texture.

For this reason, we first assess the skin and adapt treatment accordingly. Not every treatment step needs to be performed with the same intensity on every skin. What matters is what the skin needs at the respective time.

Which Skin Is HydraFacial Suited To?

HydraFacial can be used for different skin needs. These include, in particular:

  • Dehydrated skin
  • A dull or tired-looking complexion
  • Superficial blemishes
  • Increased sebum production
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Irregular superficial skin texture
  • Skin in need of care
  • Preparation for special occasions
  • Regular professional skincare

Not every skin change, however, can be treated with a HydraFacial. For pronounced acne, relevant pigmentation, vascular changes, or structural scars, other techniques can be more appropriate.

How Does HydraFacial Work?

The treatment combines several coordinated steps.

First, the skin is cleansed and freed from superficial deposits and dead skin cells. Controlled exfoliation supports smoothing of the skin's surface. Sebum and deposits can then be gently removed from the pores. Finally, the skin is provided with hydration and selected care ingredients.

The aim is not aggressive removal of the skin. It is controlled cleansing and care with as little strain on the skin barrier as possible.

Cleansing & Exfoliation

Sebum, dead skin cells, and residue continuously accumulate on the skin's surface.

Controlled cleansing and exfoliation can help reduce these deposits and make the skin's surface appear more even. How intensively exfoliation is performed depends on the respective skin condition. Sensitive or dry skin requires a different approach than more robust or sebum-rich skin.

Extraction

Where indicated, deposits and excess sebum can be removed from the pores.

The focus here is on as controlled and gentle an extraction as possible. Not every visible pore needs to be extracted. Particularly for inflamed or heavily irritated skin, it must first be assessed whether extraction makes sense.

Hydration & Care

Following cleansing and exfoliation, the skin is provided with hydration and selected care components.

Particularly dehydrated skin can appear immediately smoother and fresher as a result. This effect, however, should not be confused with a permanent structural change to the skin. HydraFacial primarily supports skincare, hydration, and superficial appearance.

HydraFacial for Blemishes

For mild keratinisation, increased sebum, and superficial blemishes, HydraFacial can be a sensible complement to skincare.

For pronounced inflammatory acne, by contrast, medical assessment and treatment of the condition come first. For remaining scars & acne scars, too, other treatment concepts are required. HydraFacial does not replace targeted therapy for an active skin condition or structural scars.

HydraFacial or Chemical Peel?

Both treatments can improve the skin's surface but pursue different priorities.

With HydraFacial, cleansing, extraction, and hydration are the primary focus. Chemical peels allow for more targeted chemical exfoliation and, depending on active ingredient and intensity, can be more strongly oriented toward skin renewal, blemishes, or an uneven complexion. Which treatment is more sensible depends on skin condition and treatment goal.

HydraFacial or Microneedling?

HydraFacial works mainly on the skin's surface and focuses on cleansing, care, and hydration.

Microneedling, by contrast, creates controlled micro-channels to stimulate regenerative processes within the skin. Where skincare and immediate freshness are the primary focus, HydraFacial can make sense. Where skin texture, fine lines, or selected scars are more of a concern, microneedling can be more suitable.

HydraFacial & Laser Treatments

HydraFacial can be part of a more comprehensive skin concept.

For clearly defined pigmentation & pigment spots, redness & vascular changes, scars & acne scars, or more pronounced structural skin changes, however, targeted treatments from skin & laser may be required. The different techniques should be sensibly coordinated in terms of timing. Freshly laser-treated skin, for example, should first regenerate sufficiently before further cosmetic treatments are performed.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?

HydraFacial is particularly often performed on the face.

Depending on skin condition and treatment concept, other areas such as the neck or décolleté can also be considered. The treatment is adapted to the skin quality and sensitivity of each region.

How Often Does a HydraFacial Make Sense?

HydraFacial can be performed as a single treatment or regularly.

How often treatment makes sense depends on skin condition, treatment goal, and other skincare. Some patients wish for a single treatment before a special occasion. Others integrate HydraFacial into a longer-term skincare routine. A rigid treatment scheme is not necessary.

Recovery & Downtime

HydraFacial is generally associated with minimal recovery time.

The skin can be slightly red or more sensitive immediately after treatment. For many patients, a return to normal daily life is possible shortly afterward. The individual skin reaction, however, depends on skin type, treatment intensity, and starting condition.

Result

Following treatment, the skin can appear cleaner, more hydrated, and fresher.

The result comes in particular from the combination of exfoliation, extraction, and hydration. HydraFacial, however, does not permanently change the fundamental structure or ageing process of the skin.

The aim is not flawless skin. It is well-cared-for, hydrated skin that looks fresh and healthy.

Long-Term Skin Quality

A HydraFacial can be part of long-term skincare.

What remains decisive, however, is the interplay of professional treatment, suitable daily care, and consistent sun protection. Where skin needs change, the treatment concept can also be adapted. Within medical cosmetics, depending on skin condition, chemical peels, microneedling, or individually coordinated medical facial treatments can also make sense.

Consultation

Before treatment, we assess your current skin condition at Clinic Selnau in Zürich and discuss which skin needs are the primary concern for you.

We clarify whether HydraFacial is suited to your treatment goal, or whether another treatment within medical cosmetics would be more sensible. For more pronounced pigmentation, redness, scars, or structural skin changes, a treatment from skin & laser may additionally be considered.

The aim is not to offer every skin the same treatment. It is to choose the treatment that suits the current condition of your skin.
